The charm of a Valais village—sunny living, bringing your own ideas to life

In the idyllic village center of Varen, nestled among a picturesque row of flower-adorned houses, this lovingly maintained single-family townhouse awaits you. Here, authentic Valais charm, sunny living spaces, and room for your own ideas come together.

Shops, a sports field, an elementary school, and public transportation are just a few steps away. This traditional wine-growing community delights with characterful wines, sun-drenched vineyards, and a natural living environment—true to its nickname, “Balcony of Heaven.”

Sunny rooms with a view

With 4.5 rooms and approximately 70 m² of net living space, the house offers a cozy setting for everyday life or relaxing vacations in Valais. The south-facing main rooms benefit from plenty of natural light and a magnificent view of the Rhône Valley and the surrounding vineyards. On the approximately 4 m² balcony, you can enjoy this view to the fullest.

Living with Soul

In the kitchen, the traditional Sarina wood-burning stove provides cozy warmth and helps heat the apartment while you cook. An electric stove is available for quick meal preparation on a daily basis. A bathroom with a tub and separate shower, a laundry room, and ample storage space round out the living comfort.

Plenty of space beyond the living area

With a total of over 165 m² of usable space, the property offers room for a wide range of needs. An attic, a spacious basement, and a separate Valais-style cellar provide storage for supplies and personal belongings. The attic offers additional potential for expansion, subject to the necessary clarifications and permits.

Traditional food storage cabinets with insect screens in the cellar serve as a reminder of the former storage of cheese and dried meat and preserve a piece of traditional Valaisan living culture.

The garage, with a ceiling height of approximately 1.70 m, is suitable for a small car or as a workshop and hobby room, depending on the vehicle’s height. A paved area measuring about 9 m² across the street is also part of the property

Situation

The property is located in the charming, historic village center, surrounded by well-maintained houses from a bygone era, not far from all the important amenities in the community.

Municipality

Varen is situated at an elevation of about 760 meters above sea level, on the sunny slopes above the right bank of the Rhône. Its proximity to the historic town of Leuk, the valley floor near Susten, and the well-known thermal spa town of Leukerbad makes the village an attractive place to live and a great starting point for excursions. Its prime location offers plenty of sunshine and sweeping views across the Rhône Valley.

Terraced vineyards bear witness to the vibrant wine culture. Among the well-known wines is the Pinot Noir “Pfyfoltru”—Valais German for “butterfly.” Diverse hiking trails and scenic viewpoints, such as the one near the parish church, invite visitors to explore the surrounding mountain landscape.

A vibrant community life, a village store open daily, and a multipurpose facility for sports, concerts, and gatherings enrich everyday life. The nearby Pfyn Forest complements the diverse range of recreational activities. The HES-SO Valais University of Applied Sciences in Sierre is about a 15-minute drive away.

Shops/stores

The village has a village store. Further shopping facilities are available in nearby Susten or Sierre

By public transportation, you can reach Varen from Bern via the NEAT in about 1 hour and 30 minutes, and from Lausanne in about 1 hour and 53 minutes.
