Grächen is situated at an elevation of approximately 1,620 meters above sea level on a sunny terrace overlooking the Mattertal valley.

Grächen is a mountain village in the Upper Valais, situated on a sunny terrace above the Mattertal valley. The village is particularly popular with families and has already been named Switzerland’s best family ski resort.
In winter, visitors can enjoy 44 kilometers of slopes at elevations ranging from 1,619 to 2,868 meters above sea level, served by 11 lifts. A highlight for children is the fairy-tale gondola ride up to Hannigalp. Other activities include cross-country skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, and ice skating.
In summer, Grächen serves as the starting point for numerous hikes, including the famous Europaweg trail toward Zermatt.
You can reach St. Niklaus by bus. From there, take the Matterhorn-Gotthard Railway to Visp, where you can connect to the entire Swiss rail network.
Access
Grächen is easily accessible by car and public transportation.
By Car
From Visp, follow the road toward Zermatt. In St. Niklaus, the mountain road to Grächen branches off. The drive from Visp takes about 26 minutes. Thanks to your own garage space, your car will be protected and free of snow during the winter.
By public transportation
The PostBus (Line 552) takes you from Visp to Grächen in about 40 minutes. Visp is a major rail hub with connections to the entire Swiss rail network.
On Site
Guests in Niedergrächen can use the ski bus for free in winter to get to the slopes.

Grächen offers everything you need for everyday life. In the village, you’ll find a Coop supermarket as well as other grocery stores, a bakery, and a butcher shop.
Your health and daily needs are also well taken care of: a pharmacy, a doctor’s office, a bank, and a post office are all located right here. In addition, there are sports shops, ski schools, and bike shops, so you’ll be perfectly equipped in both winter and summer.

A hiking network of about 250 kilometers invites visitors to enjoy leisurely walks and high-alpine tours, such as on the famous Europaweg trail toward Zermatt or along the historic suonen. For cyclists, there are about 100 kilometers of routes through forests and across meadows.
For families
On the Hannigalp, the SiSu Family Park awaits with water play areas, a climbing garden, an Indian fort, a petting zoo, and a tube slide. There’s also the “Zauberwasser” adventure world, the Ravensburger Game Trail, llama trekking, and forest playgrounds. Barbecue and picnic areas invite you to enjoy leisurely hours outdoors.
