Situation
The resort is located in the heart of the charming and authentic village of Evolène. The region is surrounded by high peaks, including the Dent Blanche and the Dent d'Hérens. The town lies at an elevation of about 1,400 meters above sea level and attracts tourists and day-trippers alike thanks to its impressive sports and recreational facilities.
Municipality
Economy: Evolène’s economy has traditionally been based on agriculture, but tourism has played the leading role for decades. The region offers visitors numerous lodging options, restaurants, and recreational activities. The municipality has several ski lifts and chairlifts, and the famous 4 Vallées ski area (Verbier) is just 20 km away (Les Masses, Hérémence).
Nature and Tourism: The area around Evolène is a paradise for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. In the summer, visitors can hike, climb, ride mountain bikes, and enjoy the alpine flora and fauna. In winter, the region is a popular ski destination.
Traditional Architecture: Evolène is known for its well-preserved traditional wooden houses, built in the Alpine style. These buildings contribute to the town’s old-world charm.
Culture and Customs: Evolène has a rich cultural tradition, which is reflected in numerous festivals and events. Among the best-known events are the “Carnaval d’Evolène,” a traditional carnival where residents wear masks and elaborate costumes, and the CIME —the International Festival of Folklore and Traditional Arts, which takes place in Evolène every odd-numbered year from August 10 to 15 and focuses on the theme of “mountains.” In addition, cow fights in the town’s own arena and the traditional midsummer festival are events not to be missed.
Shops/stores
The town has a village store in the village center and a larger COOP at the southern entrance to the village. All major retail chains are located in Sion and Conthey.
Public transport
Evolène is easily accessible by car all year round. The road is wide and in excellent condition. A regular bus service connects the valley communities with the train station in Sion. Evolène is 3 1/4 hours from Zurich, 2 1/4 hours from Bern, and 2 hours from Lausanne.
